Board OKs $36,000 design appropriations for two well/tank sites

Patricia Whitfield asked the board to appropriate $36,000 each for preliminary design work on two additional well/tank sites identified in the city’s capital improvement program. The sites—among three candidates previously identified as Chandler Grove (Avenue 228/East of Oakmore), Cartmell crossings (Cartmell and Acres) and the FNC subdivision at Prosperity and Morrison—were included in the CIP but only one had current‑year funding; Whitfield requested that two more receive $36,000 each to complete conceptual design work so property negotiations and future test wells can move forward.

Whitfield clarified the $36,000 is for design only and that the sites are not scheduled for construction this year. She said Corolla’s quote for design work was roughly in the mid‑$30,000 range and estimated a test well (if pursued) could be about $250,000 (Whitfield framed that estimate as approximate). A motion to appropriate $36,000 to each of the two projects was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.

Next steps: staff will use the funds to complete preliminary design, begin property negotiations, and return to the board before conducting test wells or advancing to construction.
