Local publisher urges families to attend free Camp Expo this Saturday

LJ Reid, owner and publisher of Kern County Family Magazine, used the public-statements portion of the April 8 Bakersfield City Council meeting to invite residents to a free Camp Expo and Adventure Fair on Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Westside Church of Christ on Stockdale Highway and Del Rio.

"It's a free community event that connects parents with camps, educational programs, and family-serving organizations all in one place," Reid said, describing the event as a way for families to ask about safety and accessibility and to meet program leaders face to face. Reid said the Camp Expo has been offered for more than 30 years and helps families identify local options for summer activities.

Reid also thanked the city for its ongoing support of family-focused initiatives and encouraged council members and residents to attend. No formal action or city funding request accompanied the announcement; Reid said he brought copies of the magazine and invited staff and council members to accept them at the podium.
