Residents at the committee's April 16 meeting urged the board to back a letter from Councilmember Shirley Everdell that expresses concern about the unit composition planned for 626 Palm Parkway South. Chair Richard Reynoso read the April 10 letter aloud, which questioned the project's heavy reliance on micro units or SROs and recommended a broader mix that includes larger studios and one-bedroom apartments.
Roxanne, a community resident, said the proposed SRO design "is already set up for failure" and asked the committee to "sign on to this letter and say that this the board you don't even have to write a letter that the committee board concurs with our councilwoman." Chair Reynoso said he would ask the full board to read and consider signing the council's letter at the full board meeting next Thursday and promised to email members in advance so they could review the text before a vote.
The committee did not vote on an endorsement at the April 16 meeting. Committee members agreed to place the matter on the full board agenda so all members can consider whether to join the council's concerns. No formal response from BRC (the property-related entity cited in the letter) was recorded in the meeting.
