Brentwood district outlines wide slate of summer programs for all grades

District leaders outlined an expanded calendar of summer programs for students from UPK through grade 12 at the Brentwood Union Free School District’s April 16 meeting.

Presenters described UPK 'Jump Start to Kindergarten' (July 6–Aug. 7 at Shepherd’s Gate, 9 a.m.–noon); first-grade Jump Start (July 6–24, Pine Park Elementary, 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.); a Super Scholars Academy for grades 2–5 (July 6–31 at two sites, full-day programming); a STEAM summer bridge for grades 3–5 (Aug. 3–7, Twin Pines Elementary); bilingual/ENL programs (Pioneers and Reading & Math for Success at Twin Pines, July 6–24); and numerous middle- and high-school offerings including Moving On to Middle School (Aug. 3–7), Regents preparation, advanced FAA Part 107 drone training for ages 16–18 (eligibility and grade prerequisites apply), and college-credit opportunities through partner institutions.

Athletics and enrichment offerings include a Swim Learn program, Summer Cheer Academy, Summer Track Academy, volleyball academy, twirling academy, four-week summer music program, and other arts opportunities; presenters noted breakfast and lunch will be provided for participating students. Presenters asked that the district share program materials via ParentSquare and the district website (bufsd.org) and announced an in-person registration session on May 27 for families needing help enrolling.

Why it matters: Expanded summer programming aims to reduce learning loss, provide enrichment and transitional support, and offer career/technical exposure for older students. Several programs carry prerequisites and eligibility rules (for example, drone training requires a minimum average and application through guidance counselors).

What’s next: Families can view program brochures on bufsd.org and use ParentSquare for targeted notices; guidance counselors will assist enrollment, and the district will hold the May 27 assistance/registration event.
