The meeting opened at 6:56 p.m. with Mayor Tim Harris and seven alderpersons present (Lisa Buhlig, Ron Culves, Mary Davis, Eric Harbin, Keith Schramm and Dawn Seward); Alderpersons Chris Baer and Shawn Taylor were absent. No members of the public spoke during the public comment period.
A procedural motion by Alderperson Eric Harbin, seconded by Alderperson Dawn Seward, dispensed with the reading of the April 16, 2024 minutes and approved them by unanimous voice vote. The consent agenda was then approved on a motion by Alderperson Mary Davis, seconded by Alderperson Eric Harbin, and adopted unanimously by roll call vote under the Omnibus Vote Designation.
The council reviewed department reports for April 2024. The Water Superintendent’s report listed 13,799,644 gallons pumped in April (191,405,488 year‑to‑date). The Police Chief’s report summarized calls answered, arrests, traffic stops and related activity; the Fire Chief’s report listed city and rural fire and rescue responses. Code enforcement and zoning officers submitted no reports.
On disbursements, Alderperson Dawn Seward moved, and Alderperson Mary Davis seconded, a motion to approve a contribution of $3,061.50 to the Cass County Overall Economic Development Committee. The motion passed by roll call vote: Yea — Lisa Buhlig, Ron Culves, Mary Davis, Eric Harbin, Keith Schramm and Dawn Seward; No — none; Absent — Chris Baer and Shawn Taylor.
