Woods County commissioners on March 30 read and approved a proclamation designating March 30, 2026, as "Ladybug Day" in Alba, Oklahoma, in recognition of the Alba Public Schools Ladybug girls basketball team and its run to the Oklahoma Class 3A playoffs.
A Woods County commissioner read the proclamation, saying, "We, the Woods County commissioners, do congratulate the Apple Ladybug basketball team on their ... and proclaim 03/30/2026 as a Ladybug Day in Alba, Oklahoma." The proclamation praised the players, coaches, staff and families for the program’s achievements and commitment to both athletics and academics.
The motion to approve the proclamation was moved and seconded during the meeting. The chair asked for a vote and an "Aye" was recorded, indicating the commission approved the proclamation.
Coach Jones, who spoke after the formal reading, thanked community members and past contributors and reflected on the program's history. When asked about the season, Coach Jones said the team's 2026 record was "24 and 6," and called the season "a huge honor" for players and supporters. "We appreciate this and thank you so much," Coach Jones added.
Multiple Ladybug team members introduced themselves during the recognition segment; students who identified themselves by name included Presley Jones, Miley Nettles, Judy Stevens, Caitlin Woods, Madison Walker, Allison Walker, Jordan Kearney, Haley McInnis, Payton Smith, Jason (surname not specified), Hadley (surname not specified), Christian Ferguson and Kylie Adair. The commissioner also thanked community donors and individuals named in the meeting, including Rachel Spellman, for contributions such as purchasing pizza for team members.
The proclamation recognizes the season as a source of local pride for Alba Public Schools and Woods County. After the approval and remarks, the meeting proceeded to other agenda items.
