Board allows Ocean Pines Yacht Club to sell factory‑sealed liquor at marina office

The Worcester County Board of License Commissioners approved a request to permit off‑sale liquor in factory‑sealed containers from the dock office at Ocean Pines Yacht Club, license number 515, at 1 Lumphrey's Landing Road in Ocean Pines.

Attorney Hugh Propper, representing the licensee, told the board the marina office is a 550‑square‑foot facility intended to serve boaters and nearby residents and that there are no nearby retailers selling factory‑sealed liquor within the defined radius. Propper said allowing a small amount of factory‑sealed liquor sales at the marina would serve a public convenience and reduce the need for boaters and residents to drive through a congested intersection to buy liquor elsewhere.

John Latham, president of the Ocean Pines Association, testified in support, saying the club’s customers and many local residents would find the service helpful. Chief Robinson, introduced into the record as the police chief, stated on the record that he had no objections. The board moved to approve the request; a motion was seconded and the board approved the off‑sale authorization.

The board’s approval allows the marina/dock office to sell a limited amount of liquor in factory‑sealed containers from inside the 550‑sq‑ft building; licensing staff will incorporate the approved sales plan into the license record.
