Riverside proclaims Arbor Day, World Migratory Bird Day and Dark Sky Week; manager recognizes staff and announces open house

The Village of Riverside opened its April 16 board meeting with three proclamations and a series of community announcements.

President Doug Pollock proclaimed April 24, 2026 as Arbor Day in Riverside and noted plans to plant a sweet birch and pecan tree at Repton Southcoach Triangle. Trustee Mateo read a proclamation designating World Migratory Bird Day in May and described May 9 Global Big Day activities at the Scout Cabin (bird walk 9–11 AM; activities 10:30–12). Trustee Evans read a proclamation for International Dark Sky Week (April 13–20) and encouraged residents and businesses to use shielded fixtures to reduce light pollution.

Manager Francis recognized telecommunicators at the West Central Consolidated Communications Center by name, listed village staff service anniversaries, and announced an open house on May 19 at Station 1 related to the public safety facility project. Several trustees also reported upcoming community events (Knights of Columbus pasta night, Lions chicken dinner) and encouraged resident participation.
