Senate finance subcommittee forwards FY2027 Department of Law budget to full committee

Scott Kawasaki opened a brief meeting of the Senate Finance Department of Law subcommittee and moved to forward the fiscal year 2027 operating budget for the Department of Law to the full committee after a staff report on the department's request.

Kelly Goode, staff to Senator Olsen, told the subcommittee the panel submits FY2027 figures and recommendations that include $89,668,000 in unrestricted general funds; $3,142,000 in designated general funds; $43,842,000 in other funds; and $2,568,000 in federal funds, for a total of $139,222,000. Goode said the request includes 601 permanent full‑time positions and that the subcommittee had accepted the department's requests in both the criminal and civil divisions, with no changes to organizational structure.

Kawasaki moved "the FY 27 operating budget for the Department of Law from subcommittee with the attached legislative finance budget action sheet and wordage reports dated 04/15/26" and also moved to give the legislative finance division authority to make technical or conforming changes. He asked whether there were any objections; none were raised and the motion carried by unanimous consent. The subcommittee adjourned at about 05:51 PM.
