Board approves setback variance for KOA pylon sign on Cleveland Road

The Sandusky Board of Zoning Appeals approved a setback variance that will allow a new 24-foot pylon sign for the Sandusky KOA campground at 2311 Cleveland Road to stand one foot from the right-of-way.

Planning staff said the sign's leading edge would be one foot from the right-of-way while in practice it sits about 10 feet from the curb of the Sandusky Bay Pathway; the proposed sign face measures 84 square feet and the vertical clearance accommodates large RVs. "We believe this will allow even the tallest RVs" and staff recommended approval with the condition that all building and engineering permits be obtained, the planner said. Staff also noted the sign's electronic message board component will be adjudicated by the planning commission next week.

Nathan Glass, who identified himself as representing Brady Signs, said he was with Brady Signs and gave a business address; no audience objections were recorded.

A motion to approve the setback variance was moved and seconded and passed by roll call. The board recorded the motion passed and reminded the applicant to secure all applicable permits before construction.
