Las Vegas RDA clears $8.36 million purchase of nearly five acres from NDOT for medical district

The City of Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency on April 15 approved the purchase of nearly five acres of former NDOT land for use in the medical district, staff said. Dina Babsky, director of Economic and Urban Development, said the appraised value is $8,360,000 and the agency would aim to close before July 15.

Babsky described the parcel as a rare opportunity for the medical district and said the city expects to seek partnerships with local higher‑education and medical institutions to develop educational and health‑care uses. "For us to be able to present almost 5 acres for the city to be able to purchase is a rare opportunity," Babsky told the board.

The chair moved to approve the item and the motion passed on a voice vote. Babsky noted the site was acquired previously by NDOT for freeway expansion and is now available because the state no longer needs the property. The RDA recorded the funding source as the RDA special revenue fund.

Staff framed the purchase as a strategic land‑banking move to support future medical and educational development; the meeting record does not include a roll call vote tally.
