BRCC seeks authority for Economic Development District; committee reports SB 282 favorably

A presenter representing Senator Barrow asked the committee for a favorable report on SB 282 to allow Baton Rouge Community College to establish an Economic Development District similar to those authorized for LSU and Southern University.

Charles Landry testified in support, describing his pro bono involvement in drafting earlier EDD legislation and saying BRCC has significant local retention of graduates. "BRCC is the fastest growing post public secondary institution in Louisiana with over 90% of our graduates remaining and working in the state," Landry said, arguing the district would provide critical resources for the college's growth and community economic development.

Chandra Foll (who asked a question on the record) voiced support and moved the motion favorable; Senator Foyle also made a motion to approve favorable.
