Chief Sean Davis provided the commission an update on the downtown exclusion zone enacted January 2 and described five individuals who have received 30-day exclusions for crimes including theft, trespass, disorderly conduct, graffiti and violent conduct. Davis said none of the excluded people have been documented as violating the exclusion to date and that business reports and officer follow-up indicate the approach has reduced problem behavior in the downtown core.
Davis reviewed each case briefly — theft and offensive littering in January, an assault/harassment incident followed by flight, an obscene conduct and property‑damage case, repeated graffiti and criminal mischief, and a criminal trespass arrest in April — and described status as active, inactive or completed for each notice. "I think it's been widely successful," Davis said, adding there have been no appeals or variance requests filed so far. He said officers and business partners report no reoccurrence of the same conduct inside the exclusion area.
