Oregon City swears in two police recruits and honors local youth contest winners

Mayor Denise C. McGriff presided over ceremonial items on April 15 that included the swearing in of two police recruits and recognition of youth contest winners and civic proclamations. Chief Sean Davis introduced Aaron Aguilar and Nicholas Cristoforo and administered the oath; both recruits are entering pre‑academy training and were scheduled to begin the 16‑week basic academy on April 27.

The commission and staff also presented local winners of the Oregon Mayors Association "If I Were Mayor" contest across multiple categories; winners' entries will be entered for statewide judging and displayed at the library in the coming month. Mayor McGriff read proclamations designating April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and April 2026 as National Library Week in Oregon City; community partners including Clackamas Women's Services provided event details and invited public participation. "We thank you, Mayor McGriff and members of the commission for having us and for again proclaiming April as [SAAM]," Erin Ritchie of Clackamas Women's Services said, and staff noted library events including a May 31 livestream with George Takei and a month-long display of contest entries.
