Lynnwood council approves $3.6M in claims, wastewater contracts and appoints new DEI commissioner

At its April 13 meeting the Lynnwood City Council approved the consent agenda by unanimous voice vote and later appointed a new member to the city's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission.

Consent agenda approvals: Council President Nick Coelho announced the unanimous-consent items, which included approval of claims totaling $3,604,468.36 for the period March 16'April 2, 2026, and two payroll runs of $1,772,955.82 (dated March 20) and $1,793,418.21 (dated April 3). The council also authorized purchases and contracts for the public-works and utilities program: purchase of SCI Corp International's biologics sludge deodorizing agent for the wastewater treatment plant at a cost of $126,720 (not including tax); contract updates with Combined Construction for wastewater treatment-plant updates in the amount of $125,206 (not including tax); final acceptance related to the 40th Avenue Water Tank Improvements Project (subject to federal and state agency approvals); authorization for BHC Consultants LLC to provide design services for the Scriber Creek Corridor Sewer Main Improvements project in an amount not to exceed $460,000; and the mayor was authorized to sign the Washington Statewide opioid settlement participation form.

Appointment: Human Services Coordinator Kyle Ward introduced DEI Commission applicant Nikhishtha ("Nikki") Reddy Kurra, who described community work supporting women and minority small-business owners and volunteer coordination experience. Councilmember Armada moved to appoint Nikki to position No. 5 on the DEI Commission for a term ending Dec. 31, 2029; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

What's next: The items approved by consent will proceed according to contract terms and agency requirements; staff will follow up on contract closeout and any agency approvals required for the water-tank project.
