District staff recommended Thursday that the Bibb County Board of Education deny a revised startup charter petition from Infinity Academy for a phased K–5 elementary program, citing unresolved material concerns about legal compliance, governance alignment, operational readiness and financial and staffing capacity.
"Based on the totality of this review process, the denial of the Infinity Academy charter petition is recommended at this time," Dr. Levitt said, summarizing the cross‑functional review that included academics, operations, finance and legal.
Board members moved and seconded the recommendation; the motion carried and staff said the denial would be placed on the consent agenda. The board noted the petition included positive attributes — community engagement and a student‑centered literacy vision — but agreed that outstanding issues needed resolution before approval could be considered.
What’s next: The denial recommendation will be recorded on the consent agenda; petitioners may choose to address the identified items and resubmit under the district’s charter petition timeline.
