The Gilroy Unified School District board reported action taken in closed session and processed several student-discipline matters on April 18. The board announced it had unanimously approved a settlement for case 202311O253 to resolve a student's educational claims. Later in the meeting trustees considered six discipline cases (numbered in the packet), moving in multiple instances to expel students and in some motions to suspend expulsions.
For each case the chair called for the will of the board, motions were made and seconded, and roll-call votes were recorded. Trustees who participated in roll call included Melissa Geary, Tuan/Twin Phyak, Mark Goode, Gabriela Kim, Michelle Nelson, James Pace and Linda Paceno. Several suspension motions were amended and accepted during debate; where recorded, votes were unanimous. The board recorded the actions and concluded the expulsion item before continuing onto regular business.
The transcript and meeting minutes list case identifiers (for example, case numbers shown in the agenda packet such as 2024-24 through 2024-30) but do not include student names or other protected information. Chair James Pace noted the board will follow legal and procedural requirements for discipline and student privacy while administering expulsions and possible suspensions as required by law.
