SNOHOMISH COUNTY — The Snohomish County Council unanimously approved Resolution 26-011 on April 14, 2026, formally recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Laurie Vanderberg, executive director of Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center, told the council she appreciates the county’s support and noted the center is approaching its 20th anniversary. “We are very lucky to have been located in Snohomish County,” Vanderberg said, thanking the council for enabling co-located services with the sheriff’s department and prosecutors.
Jason Cummings, Snohomish County prosecuting attorney, said he and the sheriff serve on Dawson Place’s board and described the center as “a nationally recognized child advocacy center.” He urged council members to tour the facility, saying it brings critical services together under one roof and reduces the trauma families face when they otherwise move between agencies.
Vice Chair Lowe moved approval of Resolution 26-011; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote, 5 to 0. After the vote, council members paused briefly for a photo with guests and the county’s facilities staff were acknowledged for placing pinwheels along the main-floor breezeway to mark the month.
The council then recessed and continued with its administrative agenda.
