Buffalo County rejects all Pickleball court bids after engineer estimate exceeded

Buffalo County commissioners voted April 14 to reject all bids for Pickleball courts at the Buffalo County Recreation Area after Facilities Director Stephen Gaasch reported the bids were higher than the project engineer’s estimated cost.

Chairperson Sherry Morrow opened and read bids submitted by Tarkett Sports, RMV Construction, and McConnell & Associates earlier in the meeting. After Gaasch reviewed the bids and told the board they exceeded the engineer’s estimate, Commissioner Ronald Loeffelholz moved and Commissioner Bill Maendele seconded a motion to reject all bids; the motion carried on a roll-call vote with all commissioners recorded as voting “Aye.”

The minutes do not list bid amounts or the engineer’s estimate. Facilities Director Gaasch will continue project review; the board did not award a contract or set a revised procurement timeline in the published minutes.

Next steps: Staff will reassess the project and report back with recommendations; no contract was executed.
