The Wayne Board of Education on April 18 read the certified results of the March 12 bond question and said it will reform a citizens committee to advise on moving forward after the measure failed.
Business Administrator (speaker 6) reported that the Passaic County Clerk certified the vote totals: 3,329 yes and 5,341 no. The results were recorded in the district minutes. After the results were read, board leaders said the district will re-establish a citizens committee and post information on the district website inviting residents to participate in planning future options.
Board President (speaker 1) and multiple board members said they plan to use the committee to gather community input on next steps while administrators evaluate project priorities and funding options. No formal new funding action was taken at the April 18 meeting; the board said project timelines and bids previously discussed remain subject to funding availability.
The vote totals reported by the county clerk will be appended to the district’s official minutes, the Business Administrator said.
What’s next: the board said it will publish details about the citizens committee on the district website and return with further recommendations when the committee’s next steps are defined.
