The Edmonds School District Board of Directors held a first reading of Resolution 26-027, a required procedural step should the district need to implement a reduced educational program (RIF) that could affect certificated staff FTE.
The superintendent told the board the RIF would likely involve small fractions of full-time equivalents rather than large staff reductions. He said the district is still collecting retirements and resignations and that those departures — if they occur before the statutory notification window — could reduce or eliminate the need for RIF action.
Board members asked for contextual data from last year’s process (one board member recalled approving up to 12 at the same stage in a previous year and requested the final count). The superintendent and staff said they would provide the historical figures and suggested the district will refine the final numbers by the next meeting. The superintendent noted certificated-notification deadlines by law require resignations/retirements to align by May 15.
No vote was taken; the matter will return for further consideration once the district calculates retirements and resignations and provides the requested data.
