The Finance and Facilities Committee voted to forward the Perkins V local plan for career and technical education (CTE) to the full board, with staff detailing how the federal grant funds would be used in the 2026–27 school year.
The presenter (S5) said the Perkins V plan aligns programs, performance goals and funding to support students in high-demand career pathways and that the advisory board had reviewed the plan with no recommended changes. "First, a significant portion of this funding, $174,142.78, is dedicated to equipment and hands-on learning environments," the presenter said. The presenter also listed $43,204.55 for instructional software and $21,602 for professional development, for a total Perkins funding request of approximately $282,837.19.
Committee members asked how the plan would reach students in special populations and those who do not self-select into CTE. The presenter explained the grant's definition of special populations (including students with disabilities, low-income youth, English learners, homeless students, foster youth and others) and confirmed alternative-education students would have access to CTE. The superintendent and other committee members described plans to strengthen outreach via school counselors, principals and partnerships with the business alliance.
The committee moved and passed a voice vote to forward the Perkins V local plan to the full board for approval at the April 21 meeting. (The transcript records the committee's voice vote; a roll-call tally was not recorded.)
Next steps: the Perkins V local plan will be presented to the full school board at the April 21 meeting for final approval and any necessary budget adjustments.
