The Christian County Fiscal Court on a voice vote approved Resolution 202609 to sign an application for the state's rubberized modified asphalt grant to cover one mile of a two-mile stretch of Spindris Lane.
The judge said the application would cover a two-mile section of Spindris Lane with one mile installed under the state program using rubberized modified asphalt and the other mile laid with traditional asphalt to allow a durability comparison. "So resolution 20 26 0 9 is to allow us to sign an application to participate in the state's rubberized modified asphalt grant," the judge said during the meeting.
A magistrate who spoke in support noted earlier local projects that used rubberized asphalt appear to be performing well, saying, "We've done that in the last few years, and they they do seem to be showing some potential there with durability." The judge confirmed the application will identify Spindris Lane and that the county will pursue the grant application as written.
The resolution was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. No specific funding commitment beyond applying was recorded at the meeting; the judge and the supporting magistrate framed the action as a competitive application to the state program that would test material performance on a road with local traffic and horse usage.
The county will proceed to submit the application and, if funded, will follow the state's grant process for project selection and implementation.
