The Gilroy Unified board voted to revise three procurement‑related policies (3,300; 3,312; 3,600) to set a $60,000 threshold for staff to execute contracts and purchases without individual board approval.
Chief Business Officer Alvaro Mesa told trustees the $60,000 figure aligns with California public contracting bands that permit alternative bidding processes and explained the change will reduce packet volume at board meetings: "All the policies revisions would support and delegate the authority for staff ... to execute contracts, purchases of equipment, etc., below that $60,000 threshold," he said.
Mesa said contracts under $60,000 will be ratified through the warrant register provided in the board packet; contracts above that threshold will still come to the board. Trustees asked legal‑process questions about ratification and public posting; Mesa confirmed staff had consulted legal counsel on the approach. The board approved the revisions by voice vote.
Trustees asked for a follow‑up review after a year to ensure the threshold and process are working as intended.
