Veterans Memorial students win Blue Streak national trophy; district recognizes student leaders

Veterans Memorial Middle School students and staff were honored at the Cook County SD 130 board meeting after the school’s Blue Streak math‑fluency program earned a national monthly trophy.

The program leader, identified in the meeting as Miss Latney, led the students to the award: the presentation cited a district‑wide average of 95.3 equations mastered per student for the month. District presenters called out individual student winners and invited them forward for photographs.

School and board representatives used the recognition to highlight the district’s emphasis on building responsibility and leadership through after‑school enrichment. The board and presenters thanked staff and families for supporting the program and asked attendees to remain after the presentation for photos.

The recognitions and award presentation were part of a longer meeting that included several school and operations reports.
