Wylie council approves update to 31.65-acre planned development near FM 544

The Wylie City Council approved a staff-initiated amendment April 14 to update a planned development ordinance that governs about 31.65 acres at the southwest corner of FM 544 and Woodbridge Parkway.

Mayor Matthew Porter opened the public hearing and Mr. Haskins, a city staff member, told council the amendment would remove obsolete provisions and align the property with current zoning standards. "This particular plan development was approved back in January 2003 ... this amendment accomplishes two things: it excludes some things no longer relevant and updates the PD to abide by current standards," Mr. Haskins said.

No members of the public spoke during the hearing. Council members sought clarification that the change would not force existing businesses to close; Mr. Haskins confirmed it would not. Mayor Pro Tem Gino Malice asked whether adjoining PD 2018-12 was included; Mr. Haskins confirmed that tract is excluded from the amendment.

Councilman David R. Duke moved to approve the ordinance as presented and Councilman Dave Strang seconded. The council voted to approve the zoning update by voice vote, motion carries 7-0.

The ordinance updates the PD language to current zoning references and to the city’s modern procedures for special use permits and other development standards. The item will be codified in the city zoning map and ordinance records as approved.

The council moved next to a separate right-of-way abandonment matter before beginning work sessions.
