Administrators’ association president urges board to grant recommended tenures; board adds personnel and legal items to agenda

Matt Scribe, who identified himself as president of the Wayne Township Administrators Association, spoke during the May 2 meeting in support of the superintendent’s recommendations to renew contracts and grant tenure to recommended administrators. Scribe said consistent building leadership and support help administrators and teachers deliver for students and warned that not supporting district recommendations could prompt strong administrators to leave the district.

Quote: "Therefore, it is my purpose to stand before you to support the tenure of our outstanding administrators," Scribe said.

Separately during the business portion of the meeting staff proposed several additions to the agenda: revised end dates for interim technology stipends for three employees, a revised administrative-leave date range for an item under administrative leave, and multiple emergent X items described by staff as follows: approval of a settlement agreement and general release in the matter of student ID number 2191924979 (dated 04/16/2024); approval of termination for good cause for staff ID numbers 8788 and 9159; approval of an employment separation agreement and irrevocable resignation for staff ID number 0375 (dated 05/01/2024); and an HIB determination identified by the transcript as HIB case number 98-2020-032024 and referencing N.J.S.A. 18A:37-15 and related subparagraphs. Staff said the board president and secretary would be authorized to execute settlement or separation documents "as attached by reference."

The Chair announced the board would return to executive session for at least 45 minutes to consider a personnel matter and a legal matter before reopening the public meeting later. Several of the added X items (personnel, legal and an HIB appeal) are matters commonly discussed in executive session; the transcript records the items’ addition to the agenda but not the executive-session deliberations or any public vote on those X items.
