The Allendale Mayor and Council voted Dec. 19 to appoint Greg Anderson as the borough’s fire chief and administered the oath of office at the meeting.
The appointment, passed by motion and second under resolution 24-270, led directly into a brief swearing-in ceremony during which Greg Anderson recited the oath pledging to support the U.S. and New Jersey constitutions and to "faithfully, impartially, and justly perform all the duties of fire chief according to the terms of my ability." The council then offered congratulations.
Why it matters: Council members said the fire department has been coming out of a difficult period and that they expect improved stability under the new chief. A public-safety committee member said Anderson "has great insight and a firm grasp on how to move the department forward," and the committee reported early signs of positive change under his leadership.
Council and staff comments highlighted the symbolic and operational importance of the hire. Mayor Wazinski and other members praised local staff for their sustained work on public-safety and recreation projects; the public-safety committee noted the department’s progress and wished the chief and officers well.
The meeting transcript records the resolution approval and then the oath; the swearing included the recitation, "I will support the Constitution of The United States and the Constitution of the State of New Jersey... and faithfully, impartially, and justly perform all the duties of fire chief," attributed in the record to Greg Anderson at the ceremony. The council did not attach additional conditions to the appointment in the session’s discussion.
Next steps: The borough will proceed with the department’s regular staffing and recruitment work under Chief Anderson. The public-safety committee also continues hiring activity for the police department (see separate report).
