The Allendale Mayor and Council introduced Ordinance 24-17 on first reading Dec. 19, approving a slate of routine items on the consent agenda and highlighting several capital and labor matters the borough expects to take up in early 2025.
Clerk Linda Cervino read Ordinance 24-17, described as "an ordinance to amend chapter 53 of the code of the Borough Of Allendale officers and employees to fix the salaries, wages, and compensation of the officers and employees of the Borough Of Allendale for the year 2,025." The ordinance was introduced on first reading and scheduled to be published and considered for final passage at the Jan. 6, 2025 meeting.
The council approved the consent agenda by single motion. Items the mayor called out for attention included a shared-services agreement with the Bergen County Utilities Authority, and a memorandum of agreement related to the Teamsters union contract; the mayor said the memorandum was "extremely fair." The transcript records one abstention on a consent-item line noted as "24.02 78." The consent motion passed as recorded in the meeting.
Council members also emphasized local capital projects. The council awarded the Crestwood Park concession-stand project after a second round of bidding produced a more economical result: a council member described earlier bids as "higher than we would have liked," and staff re-bid to secure an acceptable proposal for a planned 2025 build. Allison Oltano, the borough administrator/CFO, said the borough expects the community center to open in 2025 and praised staff and volunteers for their work on both projects.
Why it matters: The ordinance sets salary and compensation levels for borough employees for 2025 and the consent agenda contains labor, utilities and capital items that affect municipal services and budgets. The Crestwood concession project, long delayed, reaches a decision point after a re-bid; the community center opening and a recent $850,000 settlement related to acquisition/environmental issues were also highlighted.
Next steps: Ordinance 24-17 will be published and brought back for final passage at the Jan. 6, 2025 meeting. Consent-agenda items will proceed according to standard implementation; the transcript lists the concession award and the Teamsters MOU as approved under the consent motion.
