At its meeting the Fernley senior committee set a series of community events and approved two motions by voice vote.
Jackie LaVoy moved that the committee hold a second fan distribution on June 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at the clock tower on Main and Silverlace; Sharon Holly seconded the motion and members approved it by voice vote. Committee discussion had focused on visibility and shade; the city will provide pop-up shade structures for the distribution.
The committee also discussed an ice cream social to coincide with the Lyon County Health and Wellness Fair. Sharon Holly moved to purchase 50 cups of ice cream; the motion was seconded and carried. Committee members noted Steve’s Ice Cream has donated 50 cups in prior years and the committee plans to buy the additional cups if needed.
Committee members reviewed plans for the business expo on April 18 and said the committee will staff a table with flyers and promotional fans. The resource guide was discussed at length: Jackie LaVoy described suggested content edits and reported past printing with Allegra (November 2023) and an example bid of $345 for 100 colored trifold brochures; the committee discussed whether the city can print in-house or should use outside bids.
