Wapello County supervisors set auditor appointment, approve payroll changes

The Wapello County Board of Supervisors convened at 4:30 p.m. on April 10, 2026, and unanimously approved a slate of personnel actions, including setting a timetable to fill the county auditor vacancy.

Vice Chair Teninty moved, seconded by Supervisor Ziegler, to determine the course of action to fill the auditor vacancy; the board scheduled an appointment for April 21, 2026, with the appointment to take effect April 25, 2026. The motion passed "All ayes."

In the same series of motions, the board approved hiring Jackson Langland as a full-time Assistant County Attorney, effective April 20, 2026. The board recorded pay of $20,000 for the remainder of fiscal year 2026 and $77,000 for fiscal year 2027. The motion was made by Vice Chair Teninty and seconded by Supervisor Ziegler and carried unanimously.

The board also approved a change of employment for Kelly Spurgeon, moving her to Deputy Auditor (full time) effective April 27, 2026, with an annual salary of $67,456.50. That motion, like the others, passed by unanimous vote.

Chair Darren Batterson and the two supervisors who moved and seconded the motions—Vice Chair Teninty and Supervisor Ziegler—were recorded on the roll. Meeting staff present at roll call included Karen Wilcoxson, Assistant to the Board of Supervisors; Danielle Weller, Auditor’s Office; and Lisa Kent, Recorder.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn at 4:37 p.m.; the motion was carried unanimously. The minutes were attested by Auditor Kelly Spurgeon and Chair Batterson.
