ALUC elects chair and vice chair; appoints Beth LaRocque to fill late Commissioner John Lyon’s term

At its April 9 meeting the Riverside County Airport Land Use Commission completed officer elections and handled succession after the recent death of Commissioner John Lyon.

Commissioners nominated and elected Commissioner Mannes as chair and Commissioner Steve Sanchez as vice chair by voice vote. The commission then considered filling the at‑large seat left vacant by the passing of Commissioner Lyon. Staff noted Lyon’s 20 years of service and presented a certificate of appreciation for his family; commissioners moved to appoint Beth LaRocque, currently Lyon’s alternate, to fill the remainder of his term through 2027. The motion passed.

During oral communications commissioners and a former executive director offered remembrances of Lyon’s service, character and past contributions to the commission. Staff arranged a certificate of appreciation and sympathy cards for Lyon’s family.
