The Prince George County School Board approved several formal actions during its April 13 meeting, including the special education annual plan for FY27, the certification of the Perkins CTE local plan, and multiple procurement rollovers.
The special education director presented the district’s plan for the use of federal IDEA funds (sections 611 and 619), explaining last year’s implementation and the required proportionate set-aside for services to students in private schools. The director said the division expects to support 12 full‑time equivalent special-education positions with the anticipated allocation and asked the board to approve the plan. A motion to approve the special education annual plan carried on a roll-call vote.
The board also certified the FY27 Perkins CTE local plan after a staff presentation reviewing performance data and priorities. The CTE presenter noted growth in CTE completers and credentialing while warning that the state has raised performance standards and tightened nontraditional-program flags. The board approved certification by roll call.
On procurement, the division presented several purchase orders exceeding $100,000 for March (fuel for transportation, architectural work at three schools, asphalt sealing/restriping, and technology purchases) and recommended rolling multiple existing bids (fuel, refuse/waste management, pest control, uniforms, custodial services and lubricants) for another year within their three‑year rollover periods; the board approved those actions.
Board members discussed carryover and capital-improvement projects, noting roughly $450,000 of previously planned projects remain incomplete and may require a May request to appropriate funds into the CIP if projections support it. Finance staff said they would present a clearer projection at the May meeting.
Finally, after considering three proposals for the district’s next comprehensive strategic plan (Cambridge, the Donovan Group and VSBA), the board voted to hire VSBA to facilitate development of the new unified plan.
Votes on the formal action items were recorded by roll call in the meeting minutes.
