A parent, identifying herself as Miss Stokes, used the public-comment portion of the May 22 North Brunswick Township Board of Education meeting to report an incident she said occurred on May 13 in which her seventh-grade daughter was assaulted by another student. She told the board that classroom staff and administrators did not respond sufficiently and that disciplinary action against the alleged perpetrator was inadequate.
"This entire incident could have been avoided had staff and administration handled the situation properly," Miss Stokes said, urging the board for a comprehensive explanation of safety measures and future steps to protect students. A board member asked that other students’ names not be mentioned in the public forum; the parent said she wished for the matter to be public because she had not received an adequate administrative response.
Superintendent Troka acknowledged the concern, said administrators would follow the chain of command and promised to follow up with the parent the following day. "We will follow-up with you," Troka said during the meeting. The board did not take immediate formal action during the public session but moved the meeting to closed session later for personnel matters; the parent was told a follow-up would be arranged.
The board’s public record indicates the matter will be handled administratively; the parent requested a comprehensive explanation of steps the district will take to address accountability and student safety.
