The Flower Mound Youth Action Council presented its annual operations to the Parks Board, describing a year of volunteer service at community events and outreach programs.
Recreation and program supervisor Kimberly Cheek introduced the council and student leaders, with President Akshay Inam Budi, Vice President Anvita Aynan Budi and Secretary Ritesh Ghanaguntala outlining activities including Wolfoween, Dorothy’s Dash, Breakfast with Santa, the Christmas parade, the Easter Scramble and a Tri‑Town Amazing Race. The students said membership is about 12 and reported ongoing recruitment through school clubs and student councils.
The students said their priorities are both event support and leadership development: they help with on‑site event logistics, run donation drives (including for animal services), assist at senior‑center programs that pair youth with older residents, and contribute to arts‑center activities. Cheek and Parks staff noted the council has been invited to participate on steering and master‑plan committees to provide a youth perspective.
Board members asked about membership age (high‑school students, roughly 14–18) and upcoming events; members encouraged the council to coordinate through supervisor Kim (Cheek) and to appear at Parks & Recreation meetings so staff and board can more easily route opportunities to them. The students said an application and contact information are posted on flowermound.gov.
The presentation ended with board praise and an offer of help to publicize the group and identify more substantive town projects for the students to assist with.
