The Apple Valley City Council on April 9 unanimously approved proclamations honoring a hometown Olympian and recognizing National Therapy Animal Day.
The mayor read a proclamation honoring Margie Fried, noting her Eastview High School roots, Nordic skiing championships and Olympic participation. Council members voted to proclaim April 9, 2026, as Margie Fried Day in Apple Valley; the proclamation passed by voice vote. Fried, who was invited forward, thanked the mayor, the council and her family and praised the city’s parks and recreational programs for supporting youth athletics.
The council also read and approved a proclamation declaring April 30, 2026, as National Therapy Animal Day. Mary, a volunteer therapy‑animal handler, introduced her 6‑year‑old rescue dog Duke Silver and described volunteer visits to memory‑care facilities, schools and community events. The council voted to approve the proclamation by voice vote.
Both proclamations were presented on the council dais and the council paused for photographs. No further legislative action was attached to either proclamation.
