Closed-session disclosures: The Chair reported the board met in closed session and approved a settlement of $220,483.40 with contractor Sazil to resolve payments owed after a termination‑for‑convenience claim; the board reported a 5–0 vote on that settlement. The board also approved a resignation agreement for employee number 805053 and approved a settlement related to OAH case number 2023060486 providing reimbursement of attorney fees in exchange for a release of claims (vote 5–0).
Construction and procurement approvals: The board approved multiple facilities actions in a grouped process after staff presentation and committee review: approval of a construction‑management agreement for the FS3/Hodges/Hoover project; authorization of Amendment 3 to XL Construction’s facilities lease (a GMP amendment increasing project totals; presenters said the Hoover project total was approaching $23.8M of an estimated larger program cost); adoption of a resolution allowing a contractor‑controlled insurance program for a large construction contractor; award of contracts for JLS Middle School HVAC (electrical low bid to Atlas Palazzari Electric for approximately $1.6M and mechanical contractor Marina Mechanical for the HVAC package, with an overall HVAC budget of about $6.1M); and authorization of security camera and access upgrades across sites at a total of approximately $402,000 from the technology budget.
Votes: Each of the construction and procurement items was moved, seconded and approved by the board (student preferential votes noted where applicable). Board members emphasized that the items had been reviewed in committee and were part of the ongoing bond and facilities program.
Next steps: Facilities staff and vendor teams will proceed with phased work and coordination with summer programs and summer school schedules; staff noted abatement is complete and demolition work was starting soon at Hoover Elementary.
