The Sedro‑Woolley City Council approved a sole‑source award to Precision Concrete for the 2026 sidewalk trip‑hazard removal project, citing the company’s proprietary horizontal concrete saw that can efficiently correct vertical panel differences greater than 2 inches.
Director Bill Bullock told the council that smaller differentials are addressed with grinding equipment but that the horizontal saw method is the only known approach for larger offsets, allowing the city to repair a larger number of trip hazards in town. Bullock said the program’s locations are mapped in the council packet and work is scheduled for the summer months.
Councilman Henderson, who moved approval, said the city budgeted for the work and was pleased with results from last year’s contract. Councilman DeYoung emphasized the proprietary nature of the method and the value of schedule coordination with a single contractor. The motion passed by voice vote.
Why it matters: The work addresses pedestrian safety hazards on city sidewalks and uses a method the city described as more efficient for severe panel offsets. The council authorized the city to proceed with the contractor and placed the project on this year’s schedule.
