Uptown Royalty to play April 17 at Barrymore Film Center with 13‑piece band

Uptown Royalty, the husband‑and‑wife musical duo Jody Musick and Ron Renaissance, will bring a 13‑piece band to the Barrymore (Miramar) Film Center on April 17 for a show that blends salsa, R&B, jazz and pop. The concert with guest Amoria Zucca is expected to run about an hour.

Musick said the duo’s sound fuses her R&B and pop roots with Renaissance’s heavy salsa background; she described arrangements and vocal interplay as a partnership formed through complementary strengths. "He's amazing in so many aspects like arranging our music and creating this beautiful salsa band together," Musick said.

Renaissance described music as central to his life: "It saved my life," he said, explaining the instrument and performance work carried him through tours and shaped his career. The pair said their household is full of instruments and that their 5‑year‑old already plays piano and has performed with the band.

The artists emphasized their Uptown New York roots—Musick from the Bronx, Renaissance from Washington Heights—and said they draw on decades of stage experience.
