District staff told the board an evaluation committee reviewed six respondents to the recent food-service RFP and recommended a change in vendor. “We’re going to be using a new food service provider going forward. It's called Pontonian, which will be replacing…,” the district representative said, noting the committee documented scoring and criteria in a report available from the business office.
The district also said a surplus in the food-service budget allowed planned purchases of kitchen equipment: double gas ovens, an electric stove for Morris Young High, another double gas stove for Alvin Veil, and a new food-service van. Officials said details of the committee’s scoring and evaluation are available to interested parties at the business office.
Why it matters: Food-service contracts affect meal quality, kitchen staffing and suppliers across schools. The board signaled the procurement followed an evaluation process and that documentation is available for public review.
What’s next: The recommended vendor will replace the incumbent through the contracting process; contract award appears on the business agenda motions for board approval.
