The Caddo Parish Commission on April 9 adopted a special resolution honoring Dothar Sykes for his work as a stunt performer, actor and creative professional and presented him with the parish’s ceremonial key.
The resolution, read into the record by the clerk, listed Sykes’s credits across film and television and praised his contributions to productions that earned awards and industry recognition. The commission moved and approved the item by acclamation after suspending the regular order of business to make the presentation.
Sykes thanked the commission and his family, called Shreveport home and urged support for young people seeking careers in the arts. “I always put Shreveport name on it because I want people to know where the talent…come from,” he said.
Commissioners who spoke emphasized the economic and civic value of recognizing creative professionals and said the presentation supports wider efforts to grow the local film and entertainment sector. Commissioner Rob Barreo congratulated Sykes and said the parish would be “looking forward to you to help build our industry.”
The ceremony concluded with a group photo and commissioners reiterated plans to pursue film industry development and talent programs in Caddo Parish, including upcoming talent competitions and a feasibility study authorized by the economic development committee.
