Gilroy Unified recognized students and staff during the Nov. 7 meeting. District staff said 18 students districtwide earned the highest possible CAASPP scores during the 2023–24 testing window; the board and staff called forward students from Luigi Apreyah, Brownell Middle, Christopher High and Gilroy High to receive certificates.
The district also honored three standout teachers—Jeannie Baumgartner (recognized as the district's 2024 teacher of the year by the Santa Clara County Office of Education), Lindsay Hack (Gilroy High activities director and recipient of a civic engagement award) and Alex Chin (unable to attend). Board and district speakers praised their instructional leadership, inclusion efforts and student advocacy.
District staff noted that some top‑scoring students earned their scores while enrolled at other schools during the testing window and emphasized that the recognition reflects both current enrollment and test administration dates.
