Friends of the San Pedro River to host April 25 celebration; group says San Pedro NCA drew 150,000 visitors last year

Friends of the San Pedro River will host "Celebrate the San Pedro," a free community event on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., organizers said.

Joanne Roberts, representing the Friends group, said the event will include educational speakers (including The Nature Conservancy), interactive activities such as atlatl throwing and rock‑art stencil painting, bird‑ and nature‑walks, and a native‑plant giveaway in partnership with Cochise County’s Douglas campus and local nurseries.

Roberts described the organization’s work supporting the Bureau of Land Management’s San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area through education, advocacy and fundraising. "A 150,000 people have visited the San Pedro National Conservation Area," Roberts said, noting the San Pedro House nature store and weekend Fairbank schoolhouse museum as visitor touchpoints.

She asked community members to volunteer as docents and said the group provides free bird walks year‑round, school programs, and other public services funded primarily by donations and volunteers. Contact information and event details are available on the Friends’ website and Facebook page.
