At a TV3 candidate event, Jabin Collins, a former city council member running for Fayette County Council District 2, laid out an approach to budget pressure created by recent state property-tax changes.
Asked about Indiana's Enrolled Act 1 and its effect on local revenue, Collins called for fiscal caution and said the county must "do more with less," watch special projects that have ongoing costs and make sure every dollar produces measurable benefits. He said he was not in favor of raising taxes and favored reducing spending where feasible, while acknowledging choices would be difficult and require mature discussion.
Collins also said decisions about cutting or restructuring services should consider downstream impacts on residents and that the council should prioritize communication with the community when weighing trade-offs. He asked voters for their support ahead of the May 5 primary.
