Committee members reviewed progress and design options for the veterans tribute site where demolition of the former Dairy Queen is complete and asked staff to solicit bids for the project.
"If you've driven on 63, you can see that the Dairy Queen is now gone," the project lead reported, noting the demolition and commending the excavator. Staff presented construction alternatives (post-frame wall, split-face block, brick) and two fountain options: run on city water pressure or install a pump and electrical service.
Discussion focused on initial versus ongoing costs: a pump would raise upfront costs but could reduce monthly water bills; hooking into city water might lower upfront cost but increase ongoing expense. One member suggested obtaining cost estimates for both water-pressure and pump options from the city and contractors.
A committee member moved to solicit bids for the project, including alternate options; another member seconded the motion. The committee voted in favor of moving forward to obtain bids for the project as discussed.
The motion to seek bids carried; staff will collect cost estimates and prepare formal bid documents for the committee to review.
