The East Ridge City Council on April 9 approved two facilities-related items: repairs to the arena's HVAC system and a contract award for replacement of the community center's lower roof.
Parks & Recreation staff (Miss Galls) reported that Trane's annual inspection identified multiple failures in the arena HVAC units, including two replacement control boards and two heat exchangers. Miss Galls told the council the units had stopped running and that Trane was called in early; staff requested $12,094 to complete the necessary repairs under the existing service relationship with Trane. Council Member Witt moved to approve the expenditure and the council voted to approve the resolution (Res. 3809).
On the community center roof, Parks & Rec staff said sealed bids were opened for the lower roof and nine proposals were received; two bids were disqualified for incomplete paperwork or missing material costs. After staff review and local cost checks, JDH Company Inc. was recommended at $69,932, a figure staff said aligned with preliminary estimates. Council approved the recommendation and authorized award of the contract under Res. 3810; council discussion included support for using a local firm and a note that the city's lowest bidder is not always the best value for public projects.
Both measures passed by roll call vote; staff will oversee contract execution and scheduling for repairs and the roof replacement.
