Clay County Commission approves routine payments, approves prosecutor invoices (one recusal) and denies nomination to Children's Services Fund Board

At its meeting, the Clay County Commission approved the agenda and a multi-item consent agenda and completed two regular items: approval of prosecutor invoices and a vote on a board appointment.

The commission voted 6-0 to adopt the evening agenda and later approved the consent agenda, which included 654 county invoices totaling $4,449,316.61, two facilities IFB awards and two intra-fund transfers for seasonal parks staffing. County Administrator summarized the five consent items before the roll call.

On regular item 2026-98, the commission considered 15 invoices from the Clay County Prosecutor's Office totaling $1,669.79. Commissioner Johnson moved to approve the item and asked why prosecutor payments are separated from the consent agenda. The County Administrator explained that "statutorily the county commission is ... responsible for approving all expenditures," and that the prosecutor's office is carved out so a commissioner may abstain when appropriate. Commissioner Thompson recused from the vote; the motion passed with five votes in favor and one recusal.

On item 2026-39, Chair introduced the nomination of Myron Neff to the Children's Services Fund Board and summarized Neff's application and business background, including prior service on the Liberty Hospital board of trustees and positions in regional banking and business development. Commissioner Lawson moved to deny the nomination. After a brief close of discussion the commission called the roll; the motion to deny passed 4-2.
