Planning commission sets public hearings on parking rules, massage‑therapy standards and mural graphics

On April 9 the Garden City Planning Commission set public hearings on several draft zoning ordinance changes, directing staff to prepare visual examples and clarifying notes to accompany the proposals.

Staff said the draft amendments would adjust residential parking alternatives, reduce maximum driveway width to 30 feet, tweak recreational‑vehicle and commercial‑vehicle definitions, and add illustrative graphics that show the proposed changes. Commissioners asked staff to include example graphics showing 10%, 15% and 20% message‑unit sizes for murals so the public can better understand the visual impact of the code change.

Regarding therapeutic massage uses, staff revised the definition to align with state licensure rules and to require standard business licensing and zoning compliance; commissioners voted to set a public hearing for the revised language. The motions to set the hearings passed by unanimous vote.

Staff will return with graphic examples, final ordinance language and proposed hearing dates for city council and public notice.
