At a public bid opening during the April 8 Mayfield Town Council meeting, staff read three sealed proposals for FY27 chip-seal resurfacing of town roads.
Readings and totals: Johansen Construction (Mount Pleasant) submitted a one-lump-sum chip-seal bid for $72,697.54. A Christensen/Christiansen Ready Mix bid totaled $70,704.70 and included detailed line items for radii (15x15 and 50x50) with separate unit charges; Hills Sand & Gravel submitted $82,429.60.
Town staff said the Christensen Ready Mix package is the apparent low bid but warned that per‑unit charges for radii and other line-item differences mean staff and council members need to compare the proposals on a scope-by-scope basis. Speaker 2 (moderator) said Jake and a council member will review square footage and radii to ensure an "apples to apples" comparison, and staff will notify all bidders of the selection explanation by Friday.
Next steps: The council did not award the contract that night; staff and two council representatives will follow up to confirm quantities and scope details and then recommend an award. The town will send explanation letters or emails to all bidders when the selection is finalized.
