Senator Hester leads Senate in adopting recess-authorizing resolution and schedules nonappropriation resolutions for a Tuesday hearing

The Arkansas State Senate adopted Senate Resolution 2 on a voice vote and approved a motion from Senator Hester to hear multiple nonappropriation resolutions on a designated Tuesday.

Senator Hester presented Senate Resolution 2, describing it as "a typical resolution that we do" and saying it "allows us to recess for 4 days or longer." The chamber signaled assent by voice and the resolution was declared adopted.

Earlier in the morning hour, Hester asked the Senate to set aside one Tuesday — described in the record as "the 20 first, which is a Tuesday" — to hear eight or nine nonappropriation resolutions that had identical House filings. The motion to schedule those measures passed by voice vote after no members spoke against it.

The secretary read a series of items placed on the calendar for consideration, including measures related to homestead property tax, the Arkansas Children's Educational Freedom Account program, and several resolutions recognizing high-school athletic champions. Senator Bryant also announced a series of budget meetings beginning Tuesday at 8 a.m.

The Senate recessed subject to clearing the desk and adjourned until 1:00 p.m. on April 14.
